Suicide can be studied as a discrete event or as a process in which self-destructive tendencies evolve progressively under the interaction of current experiences and trauma experienced during development. This paper explores the concept of suicidal behavior as a process, through the analysis of two cases. The cognitive theory of suicidality and Shneidman’s theory of suicide as an escape from psychic pain, were used as a theoretical framework
